Pickleball Rules
Pickleball Rules

Pickleball shall fall under the domain of the Tennis Chairperson, who is a member of the Board of Directors.

GENERAL

  • Court 4, and court 4 only, is designated, lined and may be used for pickleball or tennis. Court 4 includes two pickleball courts, 4A and 4B.
  • Only tennis players or pickleball players, who are playing tennis or pickleball respectively, are allowed on the courts.
  • No food is allowed on the courts other than what may be required for hydration or energy needs while playing .
  • Reasonable tennis/pickleball attire and conduct must be maintained.  Anyone on the courts must wear a shirt.  Only non-marking athletic shoes may be worn on the courts.
  • The online Pool Dues reservation system should be used to reserve a court for pickleball. (See SIGN-UP RULES section for detailed instructions.)  As with tennis, sign-ups may be for a maximum of a 2 hour period, shall be on the hour and half-hour basis.  Individual sign-ups may be made two weeks prior to the date of play.  The Tennis Chairperson has the authority to book courts farther out for longer periods of time for drills, clinics, Open PB Play or special events.
  • Courts 4A and 4B may not be reserved by an individual during Open Pickleball (PB) Play. Open PB Play is a time slot that is available for anyone to play pickleball without a reservation.  The Tennis Chairperson will designate certain times for Open PB Play and block individual reservations during that time.  See the description  and rules under Open PB Play.
  • Courts 4A and 4B may not be used for pickleball while there is a regularly scheduled ALTA or USTA match being played on any other court unless ALL of the tennis players agree to allow PB to be played.  The Tennis Chairperson may block pickleball reservations on the online Pool Dues reservation system during league matches.
  • It is requested that all court reservations be released if they are not to be used.  This is only fair to other members.
  • At the beginning of pickleball play, carefully roll the pickleball net into place on the court and lock the wheels.  At the conclusion of playing pickleball, roll the net back to the side fence and lock the wheels.
  • If tennis is being played on court 3, pull the court divider net to the center to keep pickleball balls from rolling onto the adjacent tennis court.  At the conclusion of playing pickleball pull the divider nets back to the fence.
  • Members are responsible to clean up around the courts upon completion of play – used balls, cans, water bottles, etc., should be placed in the proper containers.  A recycling container for aluminum and plastic is located in the pavilion. Check the area for towels, clothing, etc. left on the courts.

GUESTS

Guests are welcome.  They should abide by the Winding Vista Tennis and Pickleball Rules and be under the control of the Club Member accompanying them.  At least one player on the pickleball court must be a Club Member.  A Club Member is defined as a family member living full time within the paid current member’s home.

SIGN-UP RULES

  • The online Pool Dues reservation system should be used to reserve a court (4A or 4B) for pickleball.
  • Instructions for Reserving  a Court:
    • Go to www.windingvista.com (http://www.windingvista.com).
    • Sign into your Winding Vista member account.
    • Go to the Tennis drop down tab at the top of the page and select Reserve a Court OR click on the tennis ball icon to take you to the Reserve a Court page.
    • Select the date for which the reservation is to be made and then select an available court (4A or 4B) and time.  Court 4A and 4B are designated for pickleball. Note that court 4A is also designated for tennis. If court 4A has already been reserved for tennis then 4B will not be available for pickleball.
    • At the bottom of the page click on Make Reservation.
  • Court 4 may be reserved for either tennis (4A) or pickleball (4A or 4B) on a first come first serve basis.  If court 4A is reserved for tennis, then neither pickleball court, 4A or 4B, may be reserved for the same time period.  Likewise, if either 4A or 4B is reserved for pickleball, then 4A may not be reserved for tennis for the same time period.
  • Reservations may be made up to two weeks prior to the desired play date.
  • Reservations may be for a maximum of a 2 hour period and shall be on the hour and half-hour basis.
  • A court cannot be reserved for consecutive time slots by persons playing on the court together.  In other words, a court cannot be reserved by the same players on the court for more than a two (2) hour TOTAL time period.  However, after the reserved two hour period, play may be continued if no one is waiting.
  • If players reserving the pickleball court are late by more than fifteen (15) minutes, their reservations may be forfeited and claimed by other players.
  • Court 4 (4A or 4B) may not be used for pickleball while there is a regularly scheduled ALTA or USTA match (“official tennis league match”) being played on any other court  unless ALL of the tennis players agree to allow pickleball to be played.  The Tennis Chairperson may block pickleball reservations on the online Pool Dues reservation system during official league matches.
  • In the event that an official tennis league match being played on any court at Winding Vista has not finished prior to an existing pickleball reservation time, the completion of the ALTA/USTA match will take precedence over any pickleball reservations.  The official tennis league match must be completed before pickleball may be played, even if the official tennis league match is not being played on court 4, unless ALL of the tennis players agree to allow pickleball to be played.
  • It is requested that all court reservations be released if they are not to be used.  This is only fair to other members.
  • A court may not be reserved by an individual during Open PB Play. Open PB Play is a time slot that is available for anyone to play without a reservation.  The TennisChairperson will designate certain times for Open PB Play and block individual reservations during that time.  See the description and rules under Open PB Play.

OPEN PICKLEBALL (PB) PLAY

Open PB Play is a time slot that is available for anyone to play pickleball without having to make a reservation.

  • The Tennis Chairperson will designate certain time blocks for Open PB Play and will block individual reservations during that time.  Courts 4A and 4B may not be reserved by an individual for tennis or pickleball during Open PB Play.
  • Any Club member may come to play pickleball during Open PB Play.  There is no sign-up required for Open PB Play.
  • Players may use one or both pickleball courts for Open PB Play depending on the number of players.
  • If more than 4 players are present for Open PB Play players should be rotated in to play.  Any system for fair rotation may be used.  One system commonly used is for players waiting to play to stack their paddles on the bench and when a game is completed, those players whose paddles are in the stack rotate in to take the court.
  • Open PB Play is not to be used by individuals for their exclusive use.  Players may not exclude others from playing if/when they show up during the Open PB Play time slot.
  • Players of all skill levels may participate in Open PB Play.  Please be kind and courteous to all players.
